So Here We Are

So how did this blog come about?

The story:

The above picture to me, is the epitome of my Giants fandom encapsulated in one picture. All it took was one picture. The Mona Lisa of fandom misery, the Opus Magnum of the blockhead fan faction that would give up either of their surrogate parents for a Super Bowl win, or a soft reminder to myself that my obsession with the New York Football Giants tip-toes the line of crazed unhealthiness.

Where did it start?

There, right there. Not a great start with repping none other then one of the least underwhelming players that suited up for Big Blue – Ron Dayne.

Alas,

there I am in my glory. From 50 Route 120, East Rutherford, NJ at Giants Stadium. Lo and behold, unbeknownst to me, this team became something even more than just rooting for a professional football team. They became my way of life. The best description I can offer up to people describing my relationship with the Giants is pointing them to one of Hollywood’s classics, ‘Fever Pitch’, starring Jimmy Fallon & Drew Barrymore. I’ll spare you the details of the chick-flic – the story follows Jimmy Fallon as a mid-30s middle school math teacher/baseball coach who has to choose between his first love, the Boston Red Sox and his second love, his girlfriend (Drew Barrymore). The climax is Jimmy coming to grips with his cognitive dissonance, after realizing he’s no longer an 8 year old and has to move on with his life other than rooting for a professional sports team. He ends up with Drew, happily-ever-after. How fitting.

Except this blog (for the time being) isn’t about happily ever afters. It’s full of pain and anguish of a Giants’ fan, a way out. Years of pain, misery and disappointment built into this. What i hope to do with this, is provide another outlet for other miserable Giants fans who have exhausted all other avenues to bitch, moan, complain, whine, cry, and every other god damn synonym in the Thesaurus. Welcome, and hopefully by the time season rolls around, I’ll have updated this section for the better.. but I’m counting on for the worst.
